About Succulents

Echeveria 'Chrissy N Ryan' succulent

What are Succulents?

Ano nga ba ang mga succulents?
Succulents are drought-resistant plants.

The word succulent comes from the Latin word sucus which means juice or sap.
Karamihan sa mga plants families ng Crassulaceae and Cactaceae ay mga succulents. Most of these water-preserving plants ay matatagpuan natin sa mga habitats or areas na may high temperature and low rainfall.

Characteristics of Succulents

Here are some of the most common characteristics of succulents:
  • They can produce aerial roots as well para makakuha ng moisture sa atmosphere near the plant.

Echeveria 'Salsa Verde'

Echeveria ‘Salsa Verde’ is a hybrid of Echeveria longissima x Echeveria canaliculata created by C.H. Uhl. The leaves of this Echeveria are pointy and in dark green color, while the underside of the leaves are in deep red color.  More Details: Salsa Verde on Surreal Succulents

Echeveria 'Chroma'

Echeveria 'Chroma' succulent is an Altman Plants original echeveria hybrid. The leaves of Echeveria 'Chroma'  are dark purple-brown to olive green colors that sometimes look metallic. Chroma has an indentation in the center part of each leaf, and the outer part of leaves are usually bending outwards ( paliyad ). As it grows, it branches out with multiple rosettes that can be up to 3 inches in diameter. One of the best characteristics of Echeveria ' Chroma ' is that it displays seasonal variegation by showing various stains of colors its leaves - such as pink, apricot, yellow, gold, rose red, and white - which makes the center of the rosette look like sunset during this seasonal variegation. Echeveria ' Chroma ' has tall bloom stalks with flowers that are yellow on the inside and orange-pinkish with yellow tips on the outside.  Echeveria 'Chroma' Care Tips Chroma is, I think, one of the common succulents here in the Philippines and can be very

Aeonium 'Bronze Medal'

Aeonium 'Bronze Medal' is a branching succulent that forms small and compact, medallion-like rosettes that turn into dark bronze color when stressed. It has yellow flowers. In general, Aeonium don't like hot or dry weather, so they may turn dormant in summer (hence, they don't need water, except in very dry conditions). In extreme heat, their leaves tend to curl to prevent excessive water loss. Aeonium 'Bronze Medal' is a U.S. hybrid but one of its parents is unknown. The red-marked glutinous leaves and hemispherical habit point to Aeonium sedifolium . This is my favorite Aeonium species. However, it's extremely difficult to take care in lowlands. Still, I'm trying to experiment on the right spot and potting mix for Bronze Medal that will make them thrive in my small garden. More Details: A. Bronze Medal on ICN
